A2i’s new staff member – Introducing Nick
We’re (again) very excited to announce another new joiner to the A2i team, welcome Nick!

We asked Nick Wood a few questions about his role and what he likes to do outside of work:
What is your role at A2i?
Mostly transcribing maths into Braille and producing tactile diagrams so far.
What do you like about working for A2i?
A mutually helpful and friendly attitude amongst the staff. Everyone does their best to provide good quality transcription for sight-impaired people. As my blind library manager in New Zealand once said, “Blindness is an information disability”, and A2i provides that access to information.
What kind of projects do you enjoy working on the most?
I particularly enjoy transcribing work for individuals (personal requests), including educational material.
Where are you based?
Near Ivybridge, a small town east of Plymouth.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?
Walking in nature, playing the piano (classical/romantic music), and travelling to new countries. I love the miracle of life on Earth, seeing it all as part of God’s creation. I’m also very interested in learning about ancient history.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I was born in Sierra Leone, West Africa, where my parents were Christian missionaries. As a small child my family moved to England and then New Zealand, where I grew up. After working at the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind for many years, I got a job as transcriber with RNIB in 2016 before starting work with A2i in April this year.
It’s been a great experience exploring Britain where my dad was born, and I’ve really enjoyed two holidays in Sicily; the first time I’ve been to the Mediterranean. I’d like to visit Seville one day; if you are in Auckland and could go through the centre of the Earth, you would come out at Seville!
