A2i’s new staff member – Introducing Judi

We’re very excited to announce that Judi has joined the A2i team!

We asked Judi a few questions about her role and what she likes to do outside of work:

What is your role at A2i?

I transcribe text and music into large Print.

What do you like about working for A2i?

Everyone is so friendly, helpful and positive. We’re all here for the same reason – to do what we can to improve people’s access to information. I feel valued as an employee and team member, and loving finding new ways to do things!

What kind of projects do you enjoy working on the most?

I would have to say the music. My father has a beautiful tenor voice so he would sing lullabies and music from the 50s and Gilbert and Sullivan for me. So I’ve grown up with music and I know how much I love and value music and it is a privilege and pleasure to help other musicians access their music too. Music is like a second language to me, when I read music I hear it in my head.

I’m loving the variety though! Information leaflets can be fun to do as we insert the images and photos.

Where are you based?

I am home-based in Plymouth but love coming into the office in Bristol as it is such a great atmosphere and environment, also I get to do something else I really love – train travel!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Do you have any hobbies?

I adore reading, both fiction and non-fiction. I do love fantasy, so J R R Tolkien, C S Lewis and Terry Pratchett are my favourite authors there. I also enjoy books by David Adam, Agatha Christie, Michael Morpugo but I’ll be here forever if I list all my favourite authors!!

I love making things so I cross stitch (I usually have something with me at all times!!), knitting, crochet, making jewellery, and baking.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

My favourite quotes:

“Not all who wander are lost” – J R R Tolkien

“It’s simply not an adventure worth telling if there aren’t any dragons” – also J. R. R. Tolkien

“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it”- from the Bible, Hebrews chapter 13, verse 12.

“Do what you love, and love what you do” – often attributed to Confucius. This is easy at A2i!!
