How A2i helped a national arts organisation with a bespoke BSL video request
Our customers – a national arts organisation – contacted us as they wanted to add BSL signing to a video showcasing one of their well-known artists. We have been producing Large Print, Audio, Easy Read and BSL versions of documents for this organisation for a number of years, but this was the first time that they had asked us to add a BSL signer to an existing video.
BSL (British Sign Language) requirements
The arts organisation asked A2i to add a BSL signer to an existing video, with specific requirements regarding the signer. As the artist was of Indian descent, and the video relates to how his heritage has influenced his art, both he and the arts organisation wanted a signer who came from a Black, Asian, or Ethnically Diverse background.
A2i’s solution
After a meeting with the artist and our customer to discuss the requirements, we set about finding the perfect signer, and settled on Nikki, who is from a mixed Black background. Nikki matched her signing to the voiceover on the video, following a script written by our customer. Her signing was accurate and clear and the artist and our customer were both very happy with the finished product.
The accessible video, with Nikki’s signing, was published online.
