About Fred
Fred Noyce loves playing the keyboard, both for his own enjoyment and for others. His transcription requests to A2i range from hymns and worship songs to music from shows, folk songs, classical pieces and Christmas music.
The challenge
Fred is severely sight impaired, with some peripheral vision. He needs sheet music that he can read comfortably while playing. He previously used music with an 18mm stave, but as his sight has changed, he now needs a larger stave size.
The layout also needs to suit the way he uses his music. He generally prefers notes without lyrics and likes to have several pieces bound together in one book.
How A2i helped
Fred first came to us in May 2025. Judi, one of our music transcribers, had previously transcribed music for Fred’s and was already familiar with his preferred style.
When Fred needed larger music, we sent him a large print music sample booklet so he could choose a stave size that worked best for him. He now uses a 20mm stave. His feedback has also helped us tailor other details, including binding multiple pieces together rather than producing a separate booklet for each one. We also double-check requests that differ from his usual preferences. For example, one order included lyrics, which turned out to be a mistake, so we’re glad we checked!
The result
A2i has completed 19 jobs for Fred since his first order. Most have included at least seven pieces of music, giving him access to a varied collection in a format shaped around his needs and preferences.
Fred’s experience shows how useful it is to revisit the format as someone’s needs change. By adjusting the stave size and presentation, we can help him continue enjoying music at the keyboard and sharing it with others.
What Fred says about A2i’s Large Print music service
“This service has been a life line for me, enabling me to continue playing as my sight deteriorated. Amazingly all scores have been completely mistake free, even though some of the originals sent have been a bit battered and faded. In short – an excellent service.”
