Customer: Ebenezer Evangelical Church
Services: Braille and Tactile Signage
Ebe is a lively and family orientated local community church in Horfield, Bristol, which welcomes people of all ages, races and abilities to be part of its community.
In 2007, as the new No Smoking legislation deadline drew closer, Ebe quickly needed to get appropriate signage for their main church building. At the same time, the church wanted to re-evaluate and update existing Health & Safety signage and make it accessible to visually impaired people.
With a steadily growing congregation and two members registered blind and reading Braille, the Church was very aware that its facilities needed to be accessible to people of all ability levels and individual differences, and that everyone must be enabled to follow Health & Safety directions such as Fire Exits and Fire Doors.
Having worked with A2i in the past for the production of Braille and Large Print song books, the Church turned to the company again for advice. Time, locality and high quality were of the essence.
An A2i staff member arranged a site visit to the Church to establish the exact requirements for the Braille signage, and to advise on what kind of signs to use and where and how to best position them.
Within just one week of the Church placing the order for new signage, A2i had the signs produced and delivered, so that Ebe was compliant with the No Smoking legislation on time, and allowing visually impaired visitors to access all Health & Safety features independently.
“Making our Church building user friendly is essential for the safety and convenience of all our visitors, no matter what disabilities they may have,” says John Payton of Ebenezer Evangelical Church. “A2i’s No Smoking and Health & Safety signs are of high quality, meet the DDA requirements and even look good! And the service is second-to-none. We left it very late to think about the obligatory No Smoking signs, but A2i managed to send over an expert at very short notice. Their advice was incredibly useful, and once we had placed the order, the signs were here in no time.”
