National Braille Week

4th January 2009 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of Louis Braille (the inventor of Braille) and also marks the start of National Braille week 2009 which runs until January 10th.

We would like to take this opportunity to help our customers understand more about the importance and uses of Braille, and its production:

  • Please click here to learn more about some of the basics of Braille – how the dots work, how it is transcribed, and how it is printed (Article 2).
  • Click here to read an interview with a Braille teacher who became blind, and learnt Braille, later in life - this article featured in our newsletter quite a while ago and was very popular with our readers (Article 1).
  • To read a fascinating article by David Blunkett, talking about his experiences, and why Braille is so vital for him and other visually impaired people, please go to this link.

If you would like to find out more about National Braille week please visit http://www.nationalbrailleweek.org/
